About Us

It all started in 2016 with a single Apple Mac, a telephone that wasn’t ringing and a burning desire to build a truly great place to work.

There were five of us when we opened our doors in Nottingham and today, our international team of 50+ extends across the UK and the USA. At Distinct, we believe that
people make the difference and have grown our business by striving to do the right thing for our employees and customers.

Distinct’s director and co-owner, Arran Jaiswal, sat with senior consultant, Rebecca Sherman, at Distinct’s HQ.

We pride ourselves on delivering a quality service that is built on trust and measured by results. Over the years, we have:

Become market leaders in the East Midlands and are growing our presence in London and the United States

Multiple specialisms

Launched six established industries in the UK and three in the USA

Growing headcount

Gone from five employees to over 50 and counting

Office upgrades

Upgraded our UK head office four times and are opening an office in Boston in 2024

Extensive support

Grown our back-office from our CEO doing the accounts to three internal teams across finance, marketing and HR

Client partnerships

Partnered with over 900 businesses, from start-ups and SMEs to large enterprises and international organisations

Secured new jobs

Placed over 4,000 candidates in new positions on a permanent, temporary and contract basis.

Challenges, investment and international growth

However, it hasn’t all been sunshine and rainbows. Like many businesses, we’ve been faced with unprecedented challenges such as the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent economic crisis. We’re proud to say that we supported our team throughout these tough times. Then as opportunity allowed, we gradually began investing again, growing our business and shoring up the jobs for our team.

People are at the heart of Distinct

Our belief and ambition, coupled with our phenomenal team is what has got us to where we are today. But as a business, we don’t believe in standing still and have plenty more exciting plans in the making. Starting with our first international office opening in Boston, USA in 2024.

Our business values

Following our US expansion in 2021, we made it our mission to become carbon neutral. We’re fortunate to have sustainability ambassadors in our team who continue to drive everyday change, including some of our proudest achievements.

  • Our candidate gifts were upgraded to eco-friendly steel bottles
  • We plant a tree for every permanent placement to reduce carbon in our atmosphere
  • Our local suppliers range across organic, Fairtrade and zero-waste businesses
  • We are carbon-neutral certified.

We successfully offset 120% of our emissions and removed 2.5k items of plastic from the ocean in 2022. In addition to this, we have officially started our journey to become B Corp certified.

Distinct’s eco-friendly steel bottles, which are gifted to every candidate we place in a new job.

With a blend of experienced partners and junior trainees, we’ve always championed equality in the workplace. As part of our employment package, we offer the following:

  • Part-time working contracts
  • A transparent career path and bonus scheme
  • Internal mental health aids
  • Enhanced maternity package
  • Board meeting agenda and actions accessible to all staff

As part of our ED&I strategy, our board of directors are taking active steps to continue to improve our workplace for all present and future employees.

As a business, we believe in giving back to those in need and annually donate £10,000 to a chosen charity, matching any staff donations up to this amount.

We’re currently partnered with Operation Orphan and their Forget-Me-Notts initiative, which empowers vulnerable families by improving their living conditions and opening a dialogue with dedicated social workers.

All of our employees can also take up to three days of paid annual leave for charity work of their choice. Whilst this isn’t mandatory, many of the team have opted into volunteer projects and donation drives for fantastic local organisations.
